Joan Franco Briand
Trapezoid Artists' Studio
As a child I was the one who played with color on paper. I used anything available, crayons, fingerpaint, pencils, pens and it became something that I did each day. ...and nothing has changed since then. I continue to refine my painting. My current work is a journey of landscape, still lifes which are also interpreted as landscapes for me. I am very attracted to objects that surround my life. Imagery plays an important part in my work. I identify with places and people and am influenced by things around me. Color is a predominant factor. I get excited with seeing the variations of color from light. How it changes from moment to moment. Like life!
While landscaping outside, I enjoy looking at nature and in expressing in the way I see it. My interpretations are always spontaneous beginning with a very simple drawing . It is the color that produces my imagery.
In the studio I am self indulgent and focus on working with paint. The importance of the subject matter is of no real importance to me. These are my exercises which keep me painting. I often work with glass. Glass that becomes abstract sharpness of shapes that reflect in the surface. As the light changes, the abstract shapes change. The color of the shapes are my interest and the relationship of one shape to another. Here I find myself thinking clearly without outside influence or interruption.
I am at the studio painting during the week. Feel free to visit. I can be reachd by telephone at 508-676-3296. I offer instruction in painting both privately and in a class setting. Looking forward to seeing you.
